Session 05
Autolaunched Flows, Schedule-Triggered, Scheduled Path
Agenda
09:00–12:00
Design, elements, debugging
We show you what a Flow is and what you can use Flows for on the Salesforce platform. You get to know the Flow Designer, its elements and how to use it, and we share our best practices and experience in designing Flows.
- Flow – general overview
- Modelling business processes – the foundation for new Flows
- Flow elements – what is there and what does each one do?
- Debugging – Flow testing and error analysis
13:00–16:00
Types of Flows, their pros, cons and limits
We give an overview of the different Flow types you can create after clicking "New Flow" in Salesforce. In particular, we look at Screen Flows for modelling user interactions and Record-Triggered Flows, i.e. processing that is triggered automatically based on specific criteria. We also look at whose permissions apply when a Flow runs automatically, and when you reach the limits of Flow Builder.
- General overview of Flow types
- Screen Flow – introduction and use cases
- Record-Triggered Flow – introduction and use cases
- Flow – running user and context
- Pros and cons of the different Flows
- Limits – what do you need to consider to stay within them?
09:00–12:00
Screen Flows
In the next session we look in detail at how to guide Salesforce users step by step through CRM processes with the help of Flows. We show which elements you can put into a user dialogue, what can be configured (and what perhaps cannot), how your users can start a Screen Flow and how the Flow can also save your users' input to Salesforce records.
- Screen Flow – available elements and their properties
- Records in Screen Flows – querying data and displaying it to users
- Updates in Screen Flows – saving user input to Salesforce
- Buttons, actions and more – launching a Screen Flow
13:00–16:00
Record-Triggered Flows
Would you like to make working life easier for your Salesforce users and get recurring tasks done faster with more automation? In this session we give you the right tools for the job: we explain how to trigger automations in a targeted way with Record-Triggered Flows, when best to set the trigger and how to keep your platform's performance high in the long run, even with many automations in place.
- Record-Triggered Flows – overview and entry criteria
- Order of Execution – what happens when a record is saved, and where is the best place for the Record-Triggered Flow to step in?
- Record-Triggered Flow vs. Apex – when do I configure, when do I need code?
- Flow Trigger Explorer – organising your automations
09:00–12:00
Autolaunched Flows, Schedule-Triggered, Scheduled Path
In this session we show you how to define individual building blocks modularly with Flows and reuse them in other Flows, and what our best practices in this area are. We will look at how to trigger automation on a schedule, i.e. at an individual point in time per record. How about, for example, an automatic anniversary email to your Salesforce users on the anniversary of their first Salesforce login? Or at a regular interval, e.g. every night deactivating all users who have not logged in for more than a year ;-).
- Autolaunched Flows – overview, use cases and best practices
- Scheduled Paths – scheduling Flows for an individual point in time
- Schedule-Triggered Flows – running automations at a fixed interval
Audience
- Aspiring and practising administrators as well as product owners of the Salesforce core platform (Sales or Service Cloud)
Prerequisites
- Prior knowledge of Salesforce – in particular the Salesforce permission model, Workflows and process automation
- Trailhead account and your own Trailhead Playground
